Finance Tips from Tony Robbins: Unshakeable

As I wrote in my latest Weekly Rapport, I just finished reading Unshakeable, Tony Robbins' shorter sequel to Money: Master the Game. It's filled with a quick, easy-to-comprehend guide to how to handle your finances, no matter your age or life stage. Throughout reading, I took a lot of notes and highlighted most of the …

This was one of the most fascinating non-fiction books I’ve read in a long time. Ryan Holiday often cites this as one of his most recommended books, and within the first 25 pages, I understood why. Alright, ya caught me. Another “power of your subconscious mind” book. This one has been on my shelf for over a decade, untouched. I remember hearing Terry Crews singing its praises on a podcast with Tim Ferriss. “In order to ‘have’ you must ‘do,’ and in order to ‘do’ you must ‘be.’” Just gonna peek in quick… Fredrik Backman is quickly becoming one of those authors I’ll read without even checking what the book is about. From Beartown to A Man Called Ove to Anxious People and now this one, every single novel has been totally different from the last and just as enjoyable. This is one of the best books I’ve read on economics, policy, and history. Written in 1999, it’s part history lesson, part prophecy, and surprisingly accurate about the last couple of decades. “A man who is willing to venture into his fears without needing to run from them or force them into submission is a man who will find freedom where others are shackled.” As a longtime fan of the Jack Reacher series, I still get excited every time a new installment drops. Reacher has earned that kind of loyalty. This one gets a small bonus point for being set in Baltimore (where I went to college), so it was fun recognizing a few familiar neighborhoods along the way. I’m a big fan of short stories — particularly science fiction-y types a la Black Mirror. I first got introduced to the genre via Ted Chiang’s collection, Exhalation, from which the movie Arrival was inspired. A co-worker of mine recommended The Paper Menagerie by Ken Liu. Many readers may know him from his translation of Liu Cixin’s novel The Three-Body Problem. I had a Barnes & Noble gift card, so I took a shot. I’ve read every self-help or “ten principles of success” book under the sun. So when a coworker gifted Lauren a copy of Quantum Success a few years ago, I rolled my eyes. Look at that freaking cover!
