How Books Changed My Life

Lauren and I were sitting at our kitchen table last night, splitting a bottle of red wine when she asked me quite bluntly, "What is your purpose in life?" We tend to get into these deep philosophical discussions from time to time (with the aid of some wine). Every now and then, it's fun to …

I picked up this book at a Little Free Library near my house. It was short, and it was free, which were basically my only criteria. I decided to flip through it quickly and sure enough, I finished it in a day. The Seven Storey Mountain is Thomas Merton’s account of his conversion to Catholicism. Born in France in 1915 to a pair of artist parents who weren’t especially religious, he spent his teenage years in Douglaston, NY, and eventually landed at Columbia University. Lonesome Dove by Larry McMurtry book review 📚 I get a shit ton of book recommendations. Most I politely file away. You may have noticed my recent turn toward Christianity. Don’t worry, I’m not turning into some Bible-thumbing Jesus freak. But I am more curious than ever, so consider this me following that curiosity wherever it leads. After reading Mere Christianity, I went down the Christian apologetics rabbit hole, which eventually led me to the legendary Timothy Keller. Well, suffice to say, this is one of the best novels I’ve ever read. Just a masterpiece from beginning to end. This place was made for guys like me📚 Realized I never posted my 2025 favorites!
